Tahoe

Rich moved to Lake Tahoe in 1994 and quickly became immersed in all things backcountry. He has been guiding in Tahoe since 2006, teaching avalanche education, BC skills, and taking clients powder skiing. Tahoe is truly the jewel of the Sierra. Providing a deep snowpack, great access, reliable skiing, amazing weather, and so much more. In partnership with Alpenglow Expeditions.

Alps

Rich has had the opportunity to travel to the Alps more than a dozen times. Primarily in France, Italy, and Switzerland to backcountry ski. He has skied the Haute Route and Otler hut to hut ski tours multiple times along with many other objectives. There are numerous options from remote high alpine adventures to little village based powder excursions. Something for everyone along with the European experience make this a must for any ski mountaineer. Often in partnership with local IFMGA guides.

Idaho

Rich has done an annual backcountry yurt trip to Idaho since 2017. The mountains surrounding Sun Valley hold exceptional powder skiing and numerous skiing options. Spending 4-5 days simply skinning, skiing powder, and enjoying yurt life is a pleasure and something to look forward to each season. In partnership with Sun Valley Trekking and Sun Valley Guides

Japan

Japan offers a unique blend of terrific powder skiing, amazing local cuisine, relaxing onsens, and truly kind people. A weeklong powder adventure in Hokkaido is an adventure you won’t forget. Less of a “hard charging experience” and more of a “powder filled” cultural experience. In partnership with local guides.

Chile

Rich has done multiple trips to Chile to climb and ski the volcanos. The Lake district in Patagonia is an ideal spot to summit and ski 3-4 peaks in close proximity. While enjoying Chilean hot springs, excellent food, wine, and rustic refugios. In partnership with Alpenglow Expeditions

Equador

Rich has had the opportunity to guide the three tallest Volcanoes in Ecuador multiple times. Cayambe, Cotopaxi, and Chimborazo. All between 18,000ft and just over 20,000ft, this is the gateway to high altitude climbing and skiing. The combination of flying into Quito, and close proximity of the peaks allows climbers to attempt multiple summits in a single expedition. Along with great food and accommodations! Alaska

From guiding clients to the summit of Denali to skiing the steeps of Valdez, Rich has deep appreciation for Alaska and it’s insane amount of skiing options. And coincidentally, Rich got his very 1st guide job guiding a 39 day trip to Alaska back in 1999. Which included; hiking in the Wrangles, the Denali State Park, and the Talkeetnas. As well as sea kayaking in Prince William Sound, and rafting down the Talkeetna River. In partnership with Red Raven Guides.

Svalbard: Ski Touring In The Arctic Circle

Join me on a backcountry ski expedition to Svalbard onboard the Vestland Explorer. Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. One of the world’s northernmost inhabited areas, it’s known for its rugged, remote terrain of glaciers and frozen tundra sheltering polar bears, Svalbard reindeer, and Arctic foxes. Not to mention world class ski touring! Remote and wild, you’ll be surrounded by glaciated peaks and wildlife. We will travel by ship to a new location every day using our expedition-equipped 47 meter Vestland Explorer. Traveling with this expedition vessel allows us to access the best ski touring and mountaineering zones in the region. With nearly 24 hours of daylight in the spring, this trip offers a ton of flexibility for our skiing schedule – which often includes a midnight ski! The Vestland Explorer is a unique experience: small enough to get us into numerous locations bigger ships cannot access, and big enough to push through ice and provide us with a safe and spacious floating hotel. The service, food, and accommodations are next level. Including a hot tub and sauna! Our ski team will include 12 skiers and 3 guides (again offering lots options & lots of safety). We will spend our days exploring untouched terrain on the remote west coast of Spitsbergen, Svalbard’s largest island. This is a 9 day trip in partnership with Ice Axe Expeditions.
